Life is hard, no ones going to argue with that. Wake up early, go to work, sit at your desk, drive home in traffic, cook dinner, sit down for a second before bed and repeat. Work, eat, sleep repeat. We work to live and it’s all part of the system. You work, you get paid, enjoy your two day break, and the occasional short vacation and repeat until you retire. So like 45 years? Where’s the joy in that? What makes that lifestyle worth it? That little 4 day vacation to the beach and back to work again? How do we continue to desire more out of life and then just repeat the endless, mundane cycle again and again?
I WISH I COULD TELL YOU I HAVE THE SOLUTION TO BREAK THAT, I DON’T.
I CAN TELL YOU WHAT I’M DOING TO CHANGE IT THOUGH AND HOW IT’S WORKED OUT FOR ME SO FAR.
My wife loves those self help books, Miracle Morning, The Secret, The Four Agreements, etc. and I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with them, I’m saying they all preach a similar game plan. Focus on what makes you happy, wake up earlier and dedicate time to what makes you happy. Set a goal on evolving your lifestyle to fit your happiness and achieve it. Simple right? If it was simple everyone would be doing it and there wouldn’t be a cycle to break.
Sierra and I started this idea of altering our lifestyle with just daily discussions; talking about what we would do differently, what if money wasn’t an issue, where would we live, how would we live. Talking about how we can break that work, eat, sleep, repeat cycle. These talks turned into plans and eventually found their way to paper.
My Great Uncle Bud always tells me, “Coming up with a plan in your head means it’ll only ever be a dream. Write it down. Once it’s on paper, you’ve taken the first steps to making it a reality.”
We then began the “Transformation”. Well kinda.
We started simply, waking up a bit earlier (which is super hard for me) and dedicating an hour of our morning to something we enjoy: blogging, woodworking, playing guitar, working out, our hobbies. We did this to ensure that we took time every single day to do what we love.
What would you do with an extra hour in your day?
HINT: THE ANSWER IS NOT SLEEP MORE
After a while it becomes just another part of your routine. Wait, aren’t we trying to break routine? No, we’re evolving our routine to better reflect the lifestyle we’re in pursuit of. After waking up earlier and dedicating time to our vision and happiness we started planning and executing. That’s how this site came to be. That’s how our YouTube channel came to be too. We talked, planned, and then started making our mark on the internet. We don’t plan on making millions doing this, but it’s a start towards an independent future away from the mundane cycle.
